In the past few years, we have all seen a big change in the way some real estate agents and brokerages advertise. "Commission cutting" or "cash back" has become the focus of how many new and some existing agents and companies choose to promote themselves. The fact of the matter is, real estate commissions have always been negotiable. Any claim of there being a set rate or standard rate is considered "price fixing" and a violation of anti-trust laws established to protect the consumer and promote fair competition.
At Makinghomeowners, we believe that the business relationship between an agent and client is, and should be kept, confidential. Is it really the business of the potential buyers of your home what you are paying in commission percentage to sell, or what kind of incentives you may be receiving to purchase your home? We do not advertise our charges on the sign in your front yard or the newspaper ad displaying your house. We choose to earn our business by providing a higher level of service, at a fair and competitive price.
Even in the smoothest transactions, buying and/or selling a home can be stressful. Emotional concerns, finances, anticipation, and the physical demands of preparing a home for showing and moving, all take a toll. In choosing representation, find the agent/s who is going to get you the results you want and need to accomplish your home ownership goals. Someone accessible to you, that your comfortable working with on a personal, financial, and experience-based level. Don't settle for less. Be a wise consumer who is not fooled by savvy marketing that makes you believe you're getting the best deal. Insist on a fair price, professional and attentive service and an agent/s who listens and understands your needs and concerns.
Remember, your home is very likely your single largest lifetime investment. In choosing representation to buy or sell, making a well informed choice is always your best choice.
